SEO for a UK online shop
SEO project, ongoing
The starting point
The shop sells reusable cleaning products in the UK, on WordPress with WooCommerce and the Divi theme. The site was well built and well branded, but almost invisible to Google. When Abner audited it in September 2026, Google had found the pages but read only 2 of 64.
The audit of all 77 pages also found:
- No Google description on any page, and default titles that said nothing a shopper would type.
- Each category had two pages covering the same thing, so they competed with each other.
- Demo blog posts, a Coming Soon page and a test category were live and listed for Google.
- 193 product photos had no image description.
What we did in Phase 1
- Google’s tools. Search Console with the sitemap submitted, Google Analytics with sales tracking, Tag Manager and Bing Webmaster Tools.
- Keyword research. Search terms mapped to all 48 products.
- Titles and descriptions. All 21 page titles and Google descriptions written, published and checked against the live pages.
- Product data for Google. All 48 products now give Google their brand, price, stock, delivery and returns information.
- Clean-up. Demo content removed, and each pair of duplicate category pages merged into one, with redirects so nothing was lost.
- FAQ for search and AI tools. A new FAQ page answers 19 common questions, with FAQ structured data.
- Product wording. Product pages checked against UK advertising rules, and the best sellers rewritten with clear facts on what each product is and how it is used.
- Asking Google to look again. Only once the pages were finished, the key pages were submitted to Google for a fresh look.
Phase 2, under way
Phase 2 covers mobile speed, security and email. So far the shop’s emails are sent through an authenticated mailbox, so they no longer show as sent by the hosting company, and several security settings that did not need to be open have been closed.
The honest note
This is a current client, so the shop is not named and there are no results to report yet. With a new site and few links from other websites, search results usually take three to six months to move. We will add real numbers here once there are some worth showing.
